This homemade everything bagel seasoning is a versatile, low-sugar store cupboard essential that brings a savoury crunch to almost any dish. By lightly toasting the poppy seeds, sesame seeds, garlic and onion, you release their natural oils and deepen the nutty flavour of the blend. It is far more cost-effective than shop-bought versions and allows you to control the salt levels to suit your personal taste.
While famously used on New York-style bagels, this savoury mix is a wonderful addition to your healthy cooking repertoire. Try scattering it over avocado on toast, stirring it into soured cream for a quick dip or using it as a crust for grilled chicken. Kept in an airtight jar, it stays crisp and aromatic for weeks, making it a brilliant shortcut for adding instant texture and depth to midweek meals.
