This classic beef lasagna is a quintessential balanced meal that brings together the comforting flavours of a slow-simmered meat sauce and three varieties of cheese. By using a combination of rich tomato paste, aromatic herbs and minced beef, the sauce develops a deep savoury profile that pairs perfectly with the tender pasta sheets. It is an enduring favourite for a reason, offering a wholesome and satisfying dinner that feels both nourishing and indulgent.
Ideal for busy families or weekend batch cooking, this hearty Italian-style dish provides a great source of protein and calcium. The addition of ricotta adds a light, creamy texture that sets it apart from traditional white sauce versions, making it quicker to assemble. Serve a generous square with a crisp green salad or some garlic bread for a complete meal that everyone at the table will enjoy.

Ingredients for Mueller's Classic Lasagne
450g beef mince
3/4 cup chopped onion
2 tablespoons salad or olive oil
1 (425g) can tomatoes
2 (170g) cans tomato paste
2 cups water
1 tablespoon chopped parsley
2 teaspoons salt
1 teaspoon sugar
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoons pepper
1/2 teaspoons oregano leaves
1/2 package (230g) Mueller's lasagne noodles
450g ricotta
230g mozzarella cheese, shredded or thinly sliced
120g grated Parmesan cheese
How to make Mueller's Classic Lasagne
In a large, heavy pan, lightly brown beef and onion in oil. Add tomatoes (put through blender or cut with edge of spoon), tomato paste, water, parsley, salt, sugar, garlic powder, pepper, and oregano; simmer uncovered, stirring occasionally, about 30 minutes. Meanwhile, cook lasagne noodles as directed on box; drain. In a 13x9-inch baking pan, spread about 240ml sauce. Then alternate layers of lasagne noodles, sauce, ricotta, mozzarella, and Parmesan, ending with sauce, mozzarella, and Parmesan.
Bake at 177°C for 40 to 50 minutes until lightly browned and bubbling. Allow to stand for 15 minutes; cut in squares to serve.
