Taking amlodipine and sertraline together may cause your blood pressure to drop lower than intended. This can make you feel dizzy, lightheaded, or faint, especially when standing up quickly. There is also a very small risk of affecting your heart rhythm.

Why this happens
Both medications can lower blood pressure (amlodipine is a calcium channel blocker for blood pressure, and sertraline can sometimes lower pressure as a side effect). Additionally, both drugs are processed by the liver; sertraline may slightly slow down the breakdown of amlodipine, leading to higher levels of it in your system.
What you should do
It is usually safe to take these together, but you should monitor your blood pressure regularly. Move slowly when standing up from a sitting or lying position. If you feel very dizzy, develop a racing heartbeat, or faint, contact your GP.

This increases the risk of serious muscle damage (rhabdomyolysis), which can lead to kidney problems. Symptoms to watch for include unexplained muscle pain, tenderness, or weakness, especially if you also feel generally unwell or have a fever.
